Pearl of the Indian Ocean: Sri Lanka

Introducing our ThisWorld Original film: “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”!

In our exploration of Sri Lanka, we dived deep into the heart of its bustling capital, Colombo. With its rich history and dynamic energy, Colombo offers a fascinating glimpse into the country’s past and present. From the bustling streets of Pettah Market to the serene beauty of Galle Face Green, every corner of Colombo tells a story.

Our adventure then took us to the idyllic coastal town of Unawatuna, where we had the privilege of witnessing the remarkable efforts of turtle conservation. At the sea turtle hatchery in Habaraduwa, we met the dedicated Chandrasiri, whose passion for protecting these majestic creatures left a lasting impression on us. We also got the priviledge to go follow releasing of baby turtles back to sea – a moment to remeber for a lifetime!

One of the highlights of our journey was experiencing a local festival, a vibrant celebration of Sri Lankan culture and traditions. The warm hospitality of the locals made us feel right at home, and we were grateful for the opportunity to be part of this joyous celebration.

No exploration of Sri Lanka would be complete without looking into its iconic tea industry. We got to experience tea plantases and did some collecting ourselves as well! Did you know that Sri Lanka is one of the world’s largest tea exporters, renowned for its Ceylon tea?

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the talented individuals who made this film possible: Matthias Dangl and Sandy Nelia. Your dedication and expertise brought this project to life, and we are grateful for your contributions.

A special thanks to Chanila for inviting us to a delightful family dinner, where we had the pleasure of tasting the exquisite flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine. Your kindness and hospitality were truly appreciated.

As we reflect on our journey through the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean,” we are reminded of the beauty, diversity, and resilience of Sri Lanka and its people. It is our hope that this film will inspire others to discover the magic of this extraordinary island nation
